Isabel
"I want to inspire people to take on scary challenges they once thought were impossible"
Bio
Isabel King is a professional off-road cyclist and new mom who strives to show what it’s like balancing being a parent and a pro athlete. She likes to lead by example, hoping to inspire others to tackle challenges with a smile. In her bright orange camouflage kit, Iz has never been one to blend in. Her goal is always to compete at the highest level while being approachable and relatable to the everyday athlete. She lives by the motto “be fast and friendly”.
Iz didn’t have a traditional path to turning pro and did not clip into a bike until the age of 27. Growing up, she was a soccer player and captain of her D1 team at Columbia University. After graduating, she worked in finance on the equity trading floor in New York before returning to California to earn her MBA at UCLA Anderson. She found her way back to sports and discovered her love of endurance athletics through triathlon, but quickly realized she loved the challenge and community that off-road and gravel racing
offered.
Last season, she showed that it is possible to compete successfully as a pregnant professional athlete. Now, as Iz enters her next chapter, she wants to be an example of balancing motherhood with her professional athletic career. Her goal is to share the ups and downs of raising a child, racing at the highest level, and serving as a resource for women considering starting a family and raising young children. But most importantly, she wants to be a great mom and show her daughter she can do anything she sets her mind to.
